JANICE’S STORIES BEHIND THE PAINTING

1. As a child, I loved these toy windmills. Recently, I made several of these to place in the garden in the centre of molehills. The vibration, caused by the wind, helps deter the moles from digging up my garden.

2. My first sighting of these magnificent structures was on a school trip to the Netherlands. Later, I went on a boating holiday adventure on the Norfolk Broads, where I encountered the British versions.

3. Winter can be cold and dull without fire and flickering candlelight. Fireworks light up the cold dark nights with magical displays.

4. I have family connections with farming and these wonderful horses did all the heavy work, unlike today with state-of-the-art machinery.

5. How fascinating water can be, especially the sea. It can be gentle and calming or powerful and foreboding.
